Thanks Pavel and Stefan (how was the snus?) for making our stay so enjoyable! Except for the weather, everything was really excellent. We had room 1 and 2 with one big terrace and a spectacular view over the lake. Really nice to have breakfast there.
The rooms are really nice with a refrigerator on the terrace. Well cleaned, good beds and a lot of hot water in the shower.
You can ask Pavel for any help, he will gladly help anytime of the day (by the way, thanks for the wine when we arrived).
    So, thanks again.

Dear Anders, I’m sorry for the late reaction. The snus was great! Too bad there is no snus in Macedonia. Thank you for your comment in the guestbook and we hope to see you again sometime!

      Take care

Small slice of paradise – the words that describe Grebnos Stone House.

Me and my family had a great time in Ohrid. Pavel is an incredibly friendly and helpful host.
The rooms are tastefully decorated. Every room has its private terrace, which is covered with flowers. Furthermore, the view of Lake Ohrid from the terraces is spectacular! There is a common kitchen where you can make your own breakfast or you can go to the restaurants, which are in 5 minutes walk. Grebnos Stone House is centrally located in the old town, so you can easily find every historical monument.

So, if you like beautiful nature and quietness, I highly recommend you to stay in Grebnos Stone House …and you will always return there.

Thank you Pavel for everything! I will be back.

    Great time,

We had a great time at Grebnos Stone House. Pavel showed us around and at the first day he took us to Trpecja. Stefan made a very good meal. Wonderfull fish with salad and delicious garlic bread.
Ohrid is a nice place to spend your holiday and the lake was beautifull.
Pavel, thank you for a great time en little Tom is your friend.

    “Accommodation with a personal touch”

    Sep 8, 2012 ViitasaariFinland

Our stay in Grebnos House was a truly refreshing acquaintance compared with a typical hotel. The landlord, Pavel, is extremely helpful and friendly – a real character with a lot of laughter and a loud voice 🙂 We were even collected from Ohrid airport by Pavel’s son. Our room was very clean and comfy with twin beds, refrigerator and own shower room/toilet. Our terrace was BIG with climbing plants, lemon tree, dwarf conifers, gorgeous sun flowers etc and a view that is hard to beat: turquoise Lake Ohrid stretching out with boats floating here and there, the tiled roofs of houses and cobbled streets below and far in the distance the silhouette of mountains surrounding the lake. Sipping wine on sunbeds at sunset or having breakfast at the table on the terrace in the morning is unforgettable. We were there for 11 days from 17th August and the sun shone every day except on the day of our departure at 7 am. We prepared our breakfasts in the communal kitchen but ate otherwise outside, the prices are so reasonable there. Pavel was also very generous offering samples of delicious peppers or sweet pavlova when passing in the kitchen. Pavel took us to his private beach and we enjoyed a delicious meal of trout with aubergines and peppers, which was prepared there in front of our eyes. It was great swimming in the crystal clear lake and sitting in plastic chairs (in the lake!) with tiny fishes cleaning our legs. The hut and the whole milieu as well as food preparation was superbly primitive. Well worth it as we had a boat trip along the shore to a nearby mountain spring as well! We had many interesting conversations with Pavel in English. A very memorable holiday we certainly had in Grebnos House.
One big advantage of Grebnos House is its location right in the heart of the old town. The lively shore streets and harbour are very close and Grebnos is high enough to offer superb panoramic views over the town and the lake.

“Full of Charm with a Great View”

    Nov 12, 2012 FigRolls90

We visited in November: 3 adults and 2 children (4 and 6). We were very lucky with the weather which made our stay even more enjoyable.

Grebnos is located in the heart of the old town in narrow cobbled hilly streets and was therefore diffcult to find. At the time of booking the owner offered to meet us (we drove) which made arrival stress free. They have easy-access parking nearby.

We were welcomed into rooms 1 and 2. As the name suggests, Grebnos is an old stone building full of character and charm. The panoramic view of the lake from the balcony is the showstopper. It’s a good-sized balcony with space for relaxing and has a shared bbq. We spent many hours relaxing and enjoying the view. We had free use of the shared kitchen and each room had a fridge and en-suite bathroom.

The owner, Pavel, was welcoming and friendly but respected our privacy giving us tips on walking trails and restaurants. The location is excellent – you are in the old town and a few minutes walk from the harbour, restaurants shops and sights.

Highly recommended for a great value authentic stay in old town Ohrid with fabulous views of the lake.

These fantastic apartments are right in the middle of the old town in the beautiful city of Ohrid. The owner Pavel could not have been any nicer to us when we arrived and all during our stay. The place has great caracter, it’s very personal as there is only 4 or 5 rooms, each with a balcony with views to die for. The rooms themselves are spacious comfortable and spotlessly clean. I couldn’t find any fault with this accomodation. Top marks.

On arrival, we were met by Pavel and were treated like long lost friends. Felt at home from the off, but I have to say, all Macedonians we encounterd on our trip were as friendly. Offered Tea and Coffee as we unpacked and given advice on where to eat and locations to vist…Pavel also gave me a book on Macedonia’s tourist attractions.

The apartment was clean and spacious, with roomy bathroom and shower attached. Big comfortable bed. We had our own fridge, TV and use of communal kitchen, although we chose to eat out all the time…cheap and no hassle!!! The real treat was the balcony and the views of lake Ohrid….what a sight to wake up to in the morning….fantastic!

Ohrid itself is lovely, lots of nice bars and restaurants…and if you feel like a boat trip on the lake, there are numerous boats available to take you out, we had Captain Christi… experience not to be missed. Pavel also gave us a bottle of Raki….beware the Raki…it’s strong 🙂 Before we left to go to Skope, Pavel arranged for our Taxi, and waited with us to make sure we got away OK…an absoulute gent! If you are looking for “Hotel Class” accomodation, this is not for you. However, if you are looking for rustic, relaxed, friendly, cheap, with a view to die for accomodation….this is definately the place for you!!!!

We will have to return in the future…Great job Pop!

First Greeks ever at Grebnos, we were there at New Year’s and with excellent sunny weather. Be ready to spend a lot of time in an amazing balcony with a breath-taking view of the lake. You can actually see the view from your bed first thing in the morning when you open your eyes.

Pavel has really put great care in making this place comfortable and nice for you. Stone works great, room was warm, clean, private bathroom with shower, always hot water, small fridge and ecologically-friendly too, towels provided and huge bed. Free wifi. Greatly arranged, the side of the room looking at the lake has huge glass panels and the floor of your room continues out to the spacious balcony. Table to eat and chairs to open up are just there for you along with wonderful pots of rosemary and other plants. Extra thing that we loved: there was a small lemon tree in our room, Pavel asked us if we wanted it removed outside, we were left wondering who would want that 🙂 Also, there is a shared kitchen, fully equipped to prepare a meal, coffee, tea, and mountain local tea were all provided.

The owner, Pavel, is a very nice man cosmopolitan in mind, Balkan at heart. We felt very welcome, trust him with whatever you need: how to get to places, find a taxi, etc etc. he even made direct arrangements for us and we thank him a lot for that. In his words his ideas of his apartments were to make something “simple, basic, and with a good feeling”. He truly went beyond that. Go there with partner, family or friends, it is great in all cases.

And a last note. The location of the apartments -view apart- is excellent. Literally 150m from the center, still a very quiet street and only a very short or just short walk to all the great monuments.

We arrived after several emails with Pavel Stefanija. What we realized almost immediately is that Pavel gives his guests as much information or as much space as they desire. Two years ago, he finished the razing and rehabilitation of this very old house, saving the old gorgeous stone to mimic a house of that period. He has lined the halls with artifacts found in the work – trully unique.

It took us only part of the first day to get used to the fact that our bathroom was three steps from our quite large bedroom. The great size of the bathroom, with its 7 foot shower and heater, all done with the restored ancient stones, offset our momentary caution. We had two twin beds (Pavel: “Good to have some space from your husband!”), which was actually very romantic after 4 days in one bed. Our terrace looked out directly onto the massive Lake Ohrid ! Look out and see the wide expanse of Ohrid ahead and to the right, Albania .

Pavel has four rooms, each quite different, each with a small refrigerator, and a central kitchen is well provisioned with just about whatever one needs to make a meal. The rooms vary by size and whether its bath is within it or a few steps beyond. The patios are actually one, cleverly partitioned by well-maintained plants. At our request, Pavel showed us how he would combine two if a party of four (or six) holidayed together. We intend to return.

Pavel was available most of the time for any of our questions. We jumped at his suggestion to join him and our (as yet unmet) neighbors a few days hence, for a fish dinner, preceded by a visit to his rustic cabin across the lake. On that excursion, we also saw St.Sturm, an ancient monastery (one of many but I think the largest in the area). Our treat was to spend a few minutes on a small boat, viewing the environs from another perspective. Pavel’s friend cooked our meal, with the main dish a salmon endemic just to Lake Ohrid . God, was it fabulous!

This is a great place to catch your breath. It is a home environment where the owner (Pavel) and his son(Stefano), give you a sense of coming home. While simple but complete, it has a view that just a few hotels or apartments can offer. We were fortunate that Pavel has invited us to his private beach where we were taught us the rich history of Macedonia. We also enjoyed Stefano’s cooking. Both men ensure that you’re needs are fulfilled, from translations to getting tickets.
Ohrid is a small village where in high season 60.000 people live, what gives the evening’s a pleasant atmosphere. The prices of food and drinks are very interesting.
Pavel en Stefano, thanks for a great and personal service and we enjoyed our stay. You are certainly in our agenda for a follow-up visit. We hope when you’re in the Netherlands that you drink a glass of wine with us.
    Greetings from Gerard and Geesje.

Our stay with you was by far the most wonderful part of our honeymoon… We want to give you many thanks for your generosity, kindness, help getting around, and many important lessons on Macedonia’s great history. We will never forget Pavel’s delicious vegetarianisch cooking, swimming in Lake Ohrid’s calm water, and “Niagara Wine.”

In Ohrid, we saw many beautiful churches and landscapes and heard wonderful music, but our best memories are of the people we met. The folks we met around Ohrid and at the amazing Stone House really touched us with their kindness, and we can’t thank you enough.

We look forward to coming back some day with our family.
